Keletso Makgalwa has opened up on why he chose a move to Simba SC over a late offer from Kaizer Chiefs after his departure from Sekhukhune United FC. The 29-year-old attacker confirmed Chiefs' serious interest but said his ambition to play abroad was the decisive factor.

"Yes, Chiefs were one of the teams that were interested," Makgalwa said. "It was a good offer from them, but I wanted to play elsewhere outside South Africa. That’s why I chose Simba SC."

He explained that the Soweto giants' approach came late in the window, after he had already decided to join the Tanzanian powerhouse for the 2026/27 campaign. Makgalwa, who previously played for Mamelodi Sundowns before his spell at Sekhukhune, said he had conversations with his agent and Kaizer Motaung Jr. But felt the timing was not right.

Why Makgalwa left Sekhukhune for Tanzania

Makgalwa's time with Sekhukhune United concluded at the end of last season. His move to Simba SC, nicknamed the Msimbazi Reds, represents a growing trend of PSL talent seeking opportunities on the continent. He cited the chance to work under former mentor Steve Barker and to compete in the CAF Champions League as key draws.

Speaking during a mini-camp at The Ranch Resort outside Polokwane, Makgalwa said his immediate focus is on helping Simba win the league and make an impact in Africa's premier club competition. "For now, I am focused on Simba, helping them to win the league and do well in the Champions League," he stated.

Despite his current commitment, the Mokopane-born forward admitted playing for Kaizer Chiefs remains a lifelong dream. "It is still a dream for me because, as a young boy from Mokopane, it was one of my dreams to play for Kaizer Chiefs," Makgalwa said. He added that if the opportunity arises again in the future, he would consider it.

Sekhukhune United, meanwhile, continue their Premier Soccer League campaign sitting sixth in the table with 11 points from seven matches. The team's form has been mixed, with one win, two draws and two losses in their last five outings, a sequence they will be eager to improve upon as they look to close the nine-point gap to leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. Fans can track the team's progress in the standings.
